TrueGrit Racing is proud to announce a new partnership with SILCA for the 2027 season. As part of this collaboration, our team will race and train on SILCA’s Protocol tire lineup, including the RCG-1, RCG-3, RCG-4, and RCR.
Tires are among the most important performance decisions a gravel racer makes. They influence speed, traction, comfort, handling, and confidence across every mile of a course. For a team planning more than 200 race starts in 2027, having access to a versatile, high-performance tire range is essential.

After testing SILCA Protocol tires in real race conditions, we were impressed by their combination of speed, comfort, grip, and stability. The lineup gives our riders the ability to select the right tire for each course, from fast and smooth gravel to rough, technical terrain.
A Tire for Every Course
One of the key advantages of the SI
LCA Protocol range is that each tire has a distinct purpose. Instead of relying on one tread design for every event, TGR riders can choose the model and size best suited to the conditions they will face.
Protocol RCG-1: Fast and Smooth Gravel
The RCG-1 is designed for fast gravel courses, hard-packed surfaces, and events where rolling efficiency is a priority. Its smooth, fast-rolling tread makes it particularly well suited to racing over firm gravel and mixed surfaces where speed matters most.
The RCG-1 is an excellent option for riders who want to minimize rolling resistance without giving up the control and confidence required for gravel racing.
Available sizes:
- 700 × 45 mm
- 700 × 50 mm
- 700 × 55 mm
The broader size options also allow riders to adjust tire volume and comfort based on the course, rider weight, wheel setup, and expected conditions.
Protocol RCG-3: Versatile All-Round Gravel
The RCG-3 is the all-rounder of the Protocol gravel family. It is designed to balance speed, traction, comfort, and stability across a wide variety of surfaces.
For mixed-surface races, long-distance events, and courses with constantly changing conditions, the RCG-3 provides a versatile option that can handle both fast gravel roads and more demanding sections.
Available sizes:
- 700 × 45 mm
- 700 × 50 mm
- 700 × 55 mm
- 32 × 2.4 inches
The 32 × 2.4-inch version is designed for the 32-inch wheel standard. Its larger diameter and increased tire volume provide additional rollover capability, stability, and control on rougher terrain.
Protocol RCG-4: Aggressive and Technical Gravel
The RCG-4 is designed for riders who need additional traction and control on loose, rough, or technical courses. Its more aggressive tread pattern is intended to provide dependable grip through corners, climbs, descents, and unpredictable surfaces.
For events that include challenging terrain, loose gravel, mud, or extended rough sections, the RCG-4 offers the confidence required to stay committed when the course becomes demanding.
Available sizes:
- 700 × 45 mm
- 700 × 50 mm
- 700 × 55 mm
The available widths give riders the flexibility to choose a setup that matches the course and conditions.
Protocol RCR: Road Performance
The Protocol lineup also includes the RCR, a road-focused tire designed for riders who prioritize speed and efficiency on paved surfaces.
The RCR is a natural fit for road racing, fast training rides, and mixed road-and-gravel sessions where a road-oriented tire is the best choice.
Available sizes:
- Starting at 700 × 29 mm
Specific RCR sizes may vary by market and release date, so riders should consult SILCA’s current product listings for the latest availability.
Tested in Race Conditions
Our decision to partner with SILCA was based not only on the specifications of the Protocol tires, but also on how they performed under real racing conditions.
TGR riders have already used the tires in competition and training. The feedback has been consistently positive, particularly regarding:
- Fast rolling performance
- Ride comfort over rough surfaces
- Grip while cornering
- Stability at speed
- Confidence on changing terrain
- Overall race-day dependability
Gravel racing demands more from a tire than simply low rolling resistance. Riders need equipment that can handle high-speed descents, loose corners, rough roads, sharp transitions, and long hours in the saddle. The Protocol range gives our athletes the ability to build a setup around the actual demands of each event.
Matching the Tire to the Course
The availability of multiple tread designs and sizes allows TGR riders to approach tire selection strategically.
A typical setup might include:
- RCG-1 for fast, smooth, hard-packed gravel
- RCG-3 for mixed surfaces and variable conditions
- RCG-4 for loose, rough, or technical courses
- RCR for road racing and paved training
Tire width can then be selected based on course conditions, expected weather, wheel compatibility, rider preference, and the desired balance between speed, comfort, and control.
That flexibility is especially valuable for a team like True Grit Racing. Our 2027 calendar will include a wide range of events, from fast national-level gravel races to long-distance competitions and demanding regional courses. No two events require exactly the same setup, and the Protocol lineup gives our riders the tools to adapt.
A Partnership Built Around Performance and Community
The SILCA partnership is about more than putting a logo on a team kit. It is built around shared values: performance, technical education, thoughtful equipment selection, and a commitment to helping riders make better decisions.
Throughout the 2027 season, True Grit Racing will share our experiences with the Protocol tires through:
- Race reports and event recaps
- Tire selection and setup discussions
- Athlete profiles
- Training and equipment content
- Social media updates
- Product education
Our goal is to provide honest, useful feedback from the perspective of a team racing across a wide range of courses and conditions.
Looking Ahead to 2027
True Grit Racing is building toward an ambitious 2027 season, with more than 200 planned race starts across our Elite, age-group, and grassroots racing community. The SILCA Protocol tire range will play an important role in that effort.
We are excited to represent SILCA throughout the 2027 season and to continue testing, racing, and sharing what we learn along the way.
For True Grit Racing, the best equipment is equipment that helps riders race faster, ride farther, and feel more confident when conditions become difficult. Based on our early experie
nce, SILCA’s Protocol tires are ready for that challenge.
